Dummy text with a difference

This is a filler text. You can use it to see if all the letters are there and what they look like. Sometimes you use words like Hamburgefonts, Rafgenduks or Handgloves to test fonts. Sometimes sentences that contain all the letters of the alphabet — these sentences are called “pangrams”. Very well known is this one: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Often, parts of sentences in foreign languages are included in dummy texts (AVAIL® and Wefox™ are testing aussi la kerning) in order to test the effect in other languages. In Latin, for example, almost any typeface looks good. Quod erat demonstrandum.

Since 1975, numbers have been missing from most dummy texts, which is why, according to Article 204 Typo Act, numbers will become compulsory in 86 of the texts from the year 2034. Non-compliance will be punished with up to 245,00 € or 368,00 $. Equally important are now âçćëñtš, but these are almost always included in newer typefaces. An important but difficult field to integrate are OpenType functionalities. Depending on the software and default settings, built-in small caps, kerning or ligatures (very pretty) may not be displayed correctly.

Far Behind the Word Mountains

Far behind the word mountains, beyond Vowelham and Consonantia, live the Dummy Texts. They live in seclusion in Bookmarksgrove on the coast of the Semantic Ocean. A small stream called Prose flows through their village and supplies them with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic land where roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Not even the almighty Punctuation rules the Dummy Texts — a downright unorthographic life.

One day, however, a little line of Dummy Text, its name was Lorem Ipsum, decided to go out into the far world of Grammar. The great Oxymoron advised it not to do so, saying that it was teeming with nasty commas, wild question marks and sneaky semicolons, but the little Dummy Text was undeterred. It grabbed a few small caps, slipped its initial into its belt and set off.

When it had climbed the first hills of the Cursive Heights, it took one last look back at the skyline of its hometown Bookmarksgrove, the headline of Alphabeton and the subline of its own street, Lowercase Alley. Wistfully, a rethorical question ran down its cheek, then it continued on its way.
